BUT I´M A CHEERLEADER – 1999
6,6/10 IMDB – Coming-of-age satyrical comedy.
Director: Jamie Babbit Known for her work as a director of various episodes of Silicon Valley, HBO Girls and Gilmore Girls
The movie is about Megan, a high school cheerleader whose family and friends send her to a conversion therapy camp to cure her from lesbianism, after a very bizarre intervention.
One aspect of this movie I loved was the use of colors to show gender roles. This means you will be watching entire scenes with full blown pink or blue everywhere (perhaps a nightmare for some)
If you are into indie movies about teenage identity crisis and you want to watch Ru Paul playing an instructor at the “true directions” camp, then this is the film for you.
Perhaps not a Cannes masterpiece, but will do for a lazy Sunday night, those nights when your only company is Ben & Jerrys.
Some other actors you will find in this film:
Natasha Lyonne – Nicki Nichols in Orange is the New Black
Melanie Lynskey- Rose in Two and a half Men.
Till next week 🙂
